Rattan

I’m not sure that this photograph is particularly good from a technical perspective – the focus is a little bit out – but I kind of like it. I think it’s because I’m able to see the inside of the cane: the rattan’s structure and the way the tubular fibres sit so snugly next to one another. Looking at them like this, in cross section, it’s hard to believe they could pack much of a punch – ye gads do they ever, though! Continue reading

This post is a bit of an impromptu one, provoked by an email conversation that Michael and I had yesterday.

He’d just started reading a new BDSM-themed erotica (which shall remain nameless) and made the fatal mistake of giving me an overview of the first chapter. All was going well until he mentioned the dreaded word ‘contract’, at which point he found himself engulfed in a storm of virtual babble – okay, ranting – that probably made him extremely thankful that we live in different countries and therefore ensured he didn’t have to listen to it in person (sorry, Michael):

‘Wow, that’s a lot of information in a single chapter! But do you know what my eye went straight to? The mention of another bloody contract! Contracts, contracts, contracts! If one more author writes about a contract I am going to … Well, I don’t know what, but it will likely involve a judge’s gavel being used on the offending book in the same manner that Basil Fawlty uses that tree branch on his car.’

Take Me, Break MeTitle: Take Me, Break Me
Author: Cari Silverwood
Publisher: Wolf Charm Press (04 March 2013)
ISBN: 9781301060573
Reviewer(s): Michael and Jane

Yep. As requested, Michael and I are back once again as a book-reviewing double act. Are we less ranty than last time? I think so. But I still ended up drawing stick figures. Couldn’t seem to stop myself. He, meanwhile, took the high road and included intelligent and insightful quotes. (I think its clear which of us is Batman and which of us is Robin in this instance …)

JANE’S TAKE …

Before I say anything else, I just want to make it clear that I liked this book. The story was interesting, the characters likeable, and the sex hot. (Very, very hot in fact.) But it disturbed me. And I felt bad for enjoying it at times. Continue reading

Silver Swan vibrator

What we used: Silver Swan vibrator
From: Swan
Price: from £89.95 (varies by retailer)
Material(s): Phthalate-free seamless silicone
Reviewer: The Dairy Maid

The Dairy Maid doesn’t usually go in for pink things; she’s not really a girly-girl. But then she met the Silver Swan vibrator. And, well … I think it’s safe to say she really (really) liked it.

First impressions

The packaging

Silver Swan - outer box

Very well packaged. There’s a smart, rectangular outer box with an accurate picture of the product on the front that gives the Silver Swan a high quality, contemporary feel and within, a hardened cardboard case with a magnetic closure. Once opened, this reveals a black card insert containing a comprehensive instruction booklet that lifts to reveal the vibrator itself, a satin carry pouch, and a multi-plug adaptor for recharging.

All in all, the packaging gives the impression of an expensive, high-end product – so far, so good! Continue reading

Smile Makers Fantasy Man vibrators

What we used: Fantasy Man vibrators (The Fireman, The Millionaire, The Tennis Coach, The Frenchman)
From: Smile Makers
Price:  €39.95
Material(s): silicone
Reviewer: Jane

Every so often, I do Alert Me posts, which are basically round-ups of – unrelated – news stories I’ve come across during my travels about the Interweb. Sometimes they’re about sex toys, sometimes about erotica, sometimes about eBooks. Occasionally, they’re about completely random things that have simply taken my fancy.

Anyhow, back in December I wrote an Alert Me that included an article about some new Fantasy Man vibrators from a company called Smile Makers. Basically, they’re vibes based on the stereotypical hunks of romance: The Millionaire, The Fireman, The Frenchman, The Tennis Coach.

Well, Smile Makers saw the post I did and a week or so later got in touch to ask whether I’d like to review them. To which the answer was, of course, ‘Oh, yes!’.

What did I think of this quartet of romance-novel inspired manliness? Well … Continue reading

Did you enjoy Nick’s text messages in part sixteen? Well, it’s Friday again and Grace gets to see him in person. Only thing is, she’s got the giggles …

THE GARDEN OF EARTHLY DELIGHTS – PART SEVENTEEN

The sound of a key turning in the lock of his front door had Nick glancing down at his watch. He looked up at Caelan, who was standing next to the window checking emails on his phone.

‘Eight o’clock exactly.’

Caelan glanced up. Smiled slightly. ‘You didn’t really expect her to be late again, did you?’

‘No,’ Nick shook his head. ‘I think we’re finally moving in the right direction. No small thanks to you.’ He cocked his head, listening to the sounds Grace made as she moved about his foyer. Hopefully removing her clothes. Continue reading

SEX

Since I attended Eroticon last weekend, I’ve been thinking. About lots of things. But, in particular, making more time to write. Not reviews, not articles, but erotica. More Five-minute stories. More serials.

Chintz went live approximately eight months ago and since then I’ve blogged nearly every week day. That’s a fair few posts! But while I’m tapping away furiously on my keyboard for a good few hours Monday to Friday, I’ve found that I’m devoting more and more time to reviews and less and less to writing stories. Eroticon 2013

If you’re a regular Chintz visitor, you’ll know that I was lucky enough to win one of three Xcite-sponsored tickets to Eroticon 2013, which was held in London last weekend. The conference ran for two full days and featured what can only be described as a truly mighty line-up of speakers, all there to encourage us, whatever our medium – blog or book – to write sex right.

I was so excited to be able to attend, although I must admit I was a little nervous about walking into a crowd of people I’d never met in person before. The very lovely Emma over at Dirty Little Whispers, who I speak to a fair bit online (and who also won a sponsored ticket) thankfully agreed to meet up with me during the initial registration session so I’d be a little less ‘island in the ocean’. However, while I was waiting for her to arrive, I happened to go and stand next to a woman who was busy perusing the weekend’s schedule. We got to chatting and what do you know? Her name was Tamsin Flowers and she was the winner of the third Xcite sponsorship. So in a room full of people, we’d somehow managed to gravitate towards each other. Spooky! (Is there such a thing as Xcite vibes?)

After listening to Ruby Kiddell’s lovely welcome and Rebecca Findlay’s talk about the XES: We Can’t Go Backwards campaign (did you know that on 1 April 2013 contraception and STI services will no longer be provided by the NHS but your local council?!) I said farewell to Tamsin, and Emma and I headed off to the first of many fabulous seminars, Molly Moore’s Myth Busting: the Submissive Woman. Continue reading
