For last week’s Sinful Sunday, I posted a photograph that was very much a  ‘happy accident’. It was a test shot for another image I was working on and everything about it was unplanned/off-the-cuff – the composition, the lighting, the intent. But, when Molly saw it, she suggested there might be more to what I’d unwittingly captured and that I should explore the concept further …

“I hope you use this as a starting point to explore this shot more. I would love to see you play around with it again, reshoot it but get rid of the darkness beside the mirror, keep the scattered clothes etc but tilt up slightly to get your head in. You can mask your face behind the actual camera. One of the interesting things I have learned at Camera club is be that little bit more aggressive with your crop, really force the viewers eye into what it is you want them to ‘look’ at. At first I was dubious, surely you risk losing context, but actually that is rarely the case and I have found that applied at the right time it completely transforms an image.”

So, this week, I had a play around. I’m no longer in the house in which I took the original image so I had to use a different mirror and backdrop but – I hope! – the spirit of the original capture remains in these latest ones.

Molly? Did I pass my assignment?!

  1. With flying colours my dear friend… with flying colours!!!!

The second one is amazing, I love the view through to the gap between your thighs….but the third one, just wow, the way the tripod mirrors the triangle shape of your legs and the V of your pussy is perfect. The last one has a really strong, isolated feel to it that I love, (I might have been tempted to scale in slightly through and tighten the crop, making the outer edges almost square I think would oddly work with the rectangle shape of the mirror)

I am so glad I set the challenge…. and now I am even more determined to buy a free standing mirror for myself. You have totally inspired me

  2. Love you managed to reveal yourself behind the camera without us really seeing much if anything at all. Brilliant!!

My favorite however is the last one. The mirror adds a great element to the picture with you seeming so far away in it. Great job!!

  3. Wow. This series is an amazing follow-up to last week’s image. I’ve been scrolling up and down trying to decide which I like best, but I can’t. They’re all stunning and strong and *interesting*. I don’t love the original shot any less, but what you’ve done here is raised it to a whole other level.

  4. Wow, what an amazing follow-up.

My favorite is either the 2nd or last. I don’t actually agree with Molly about a tighter crop on the last – the little bit of off-centered-ness to it really works for me.

    Terrific all around!

  5. This series is stunning! You took Molly’s challenge and completely ran away with it! Each shot is brilliant in a different way. I love the way the camera is perfectly aligned with your body, almost an extension of you. Really fantastic!
