Reading is an expensive hobby. A romance here, an erotica there … If you have  bit of a book addiction, like me, the costs soon add up. And that evil thing, the eReader, doesn’t exactly help. I can’t tell you how many times something shiny has caught my eye in an online bookstore – something I had no intention of reading – and I’ve subsequently found myself stabbing merrily away at the ‘download now’ button.

Similarly, keeping the toy box interesting can leave a pretty serious ding in the old bank account. I don’t tend to buy vibrators and dildos at the same rate I buy books (I doubt I’d be able to stand upright if I did!) but, even so, the good stuff is never particularly cheap.

So in the spirit of preventing whacking great reading bills and giving you frugal orgasms, I thought I’d compile a list of current deals and freebies. I’m going to try and do this every Friday, if I can – so if you fancy a little something for the weekend you’ll (hopefully!) be able to find a book or toy that won’t break the budget.

Garden of Earthly Delights excerptImage: Garden of Earthly Delights (part sixteen) excerpt

I feel guilty. I didn’t do a post yesterday. But I did have a good reason.

As promised, I’ve been writing more Garden and, so far, have managed to finish the next two episodes. I’m on a bit of a roll and want to keep going while the flow is with me, so have decided that, for the next few days, I’m going to seize the moment and keep writing until I run out of steam.

So, unfortunately, no reviews ’til next week. Sorry. But if it’s any consolation, we have some lovely ones in the pipeline: the Rocks-Off Soft Tip Bullet Vibrator, the Silver Swan from Ann Summers, Bondara’s Heavy Duty Adjustable Spreader Bar and the Smile Makers’ fantasy man vibrators will all be added to the Chintz Toy Box in the near future. First thoughts …

Lizzie
Excitement and dread.

It’s fair to say that Thomas and I have been on a bit of a journey these past few years with impact instruments; first hands, then paddles, then floggers, then straps, then crops, and now, finally, a cane. We’d been discussing the idea of trying one for a while but had been gradually building up as we knew from all the research we’d done on them (and from playing with our other impact toys) that the pain level would likely be quite a jump. Additionally, because of their greater length, there was the worry that a cane would be trickier to control.

In the end, it was Thomas who took the bull by the horns and ordered  it – I was too chicken! Continue reading

What we used: Wartenberg pinwheel
From: Bondara
Price: £8.99
Material(s): Stainless steel

The Wartenberg pinwheel, while originally invented as a medical device for neurological use has become something of a BDSM staple over the years. So what does one feel like? Should you be afraid of those rather sharp looking spikes? Lizzie and Thomas find out.

First thoughts …

Lizzie
I’ve wanted to try a Wartenberg pinwheel for ages but, for various reasons, Thomas and I just never seemed to get around to purchasing one. As you’ve probably gathered from my previous toy reviews, I’m not averse to a bit of pain during sex but, on balance, my experience runs to impact and pressure toys (such as floggers, paddles and clamps), so anything sharp has the power to make me shiver a little. Some of you may be wondering when the next instalment of The Garden of Earthly Delights is coming. I promise, it is in the works – I’ve just struggled to find the time to write more episodes over the past couple of weeks. (It’s turning out to be much bigger project than I originally anticipated and it’s been virtually impossible to find a decent chunk of time to sit down and devote some headspace to Nick and Grace.) More book reviews are on the way, though – amongst them, C.J. Roberts’ much anticipated Seduced in the Dark, sequel to Captive in the Dark, and A.C. Gaughen’s outstanding Scarlet. Lizzie and Thomas are busy, too: they’re currently in possession of a wartenberg wheel from Bondara, so will no doubt be furnishing me with their thoughts on that in the not too distant future.
