This picture was taken in one of the remotest regions in New Zealand – as in “next stop: Antarctica”. No roads, no settlements, no nothing for miles. Just thick bush, the Southern Ocean, and the slowly deteriorating relics of the region’s gold-mining boom, which took place in the late 1800s.
I had to take off from the guys I was working with under the guise of a loo break to get this shot (longest wee in history) and I’m really hoping that it qualifies for Curvaceous Dee’s Scavenger Hunt meme as well as Sinful Sunday but I’m not sure I’m quite exposed enough for the former. In defence of the bra and waterproof trousers I’m wearing, the sandflies were the size of jumbo jets, relentless in their pursuit of flesh, and I had to struggle out of three layers of thermals to get my top half even that exposed. Oh, and my boots and feet were absolutely coated in mud as we’d just waded through some bogs.
So, this is my tribute to all those miners who toiled away here in pursuit of their first love: the Golden Whore. (And, no, I didn’t find a wayward nugget in either of those crushing bowls. Damn.)
Lovely shot. I think Dee should allow it, given what you went through to get it.
I agree, given how much trouble you went to to get the shot, I hope Dee will allow it

That looks like an amazing place to explore things

What a wonderful time you have exploring the great outdoors.
Ooohh . . . I never got that far south (unusual for me! LOL!!!) and I don’t like sandflies . . . but this is a wonderful photo. I love the location and that machinery and the way you’ve captured yourself. Wonderful!!!

*laughs* To be honest, very few Kiwis get here, either. The only access is by boat or helicopter and then some serious, serious tramping. The trek in was hellishly steep in places, too. The sandflies? I have NEVER in my life seen such huge ones. Even showering yourself in repellent, they are on you in seconds!
Oh my this destination sounds like my idea of hell but for the photo opportunity I would have to go. If it is of any sway with Dee then I totally think this should count for a Scavenger Hunt… sometimes the environment doesn’t allow for more exposure but you went above and beyond to get this image in my opinion. Total win and I LOVE the term Golden Whore

Oh this should definitely be a Scavenger Hunt! I love the colours in the image also it really is wonderful!

What a cool location and shot…I think your effort was well worth it!

such a lovely photo and story!!!! nothing for miles sounds amazing : )
Ach, the sacrifices we make for our art
Great location shot, I’m wondering what category that would fall under?
~Kazi xxx
Maybe ‘gold mine’?
What an interesting image! I applaud you for revealing that much of your vulnerable skin!
There’s nothing better than exploring the great outdoors, except scavenger hunting in the great outdoors!
This picture is beautiful even though it is in the middle of no where. I love hiking and camping but I am not sure if I be able to stay in a place like this.
This definitely counts for the Scavenger Hunt, Jane – there are a few here and there that are down to underwear. After all, it’s still inappropriate I’ve put this under the location ‘historical place’ as it seems to me like it definitely is
xx Dee
Woot! ‘Historical place’ it is! Thank you, Dee. xxx
What an incredible location! It’s like you’re on another planet.
I don’t think I’ve been to quite that much effort to get a Sinful Sunday! Amazing location
