If you’re a regular Chintz visitor, you may have noticed the bright pink banner that appeared on the site earlier this week. It’s very rare that I place persistent ads on Chintz – if I do, it’s usually within reviews to help you locate a product – but I’ve broken my normal rule and included this one. Why? Because the sex toy store it links to, Desire and Pleasure, is very special and very unique. It’s actually run by the U.K.’s Family Planning Association (FPA), and all profits from the sex toys you purchase from them go towards their charitable work promoting sexual health.

With the highest teenage birth and abortion rates in Western Europe and year-on-year rises in the number of people affected by STIs (482,696 new cases in 2009, 3% more than the year before) sex education and sexual health services in the U.K. have never been more important. The FPA is very much on the front line and not only does an amazing job of both supporting and advising people of all ages on their sexual health as individuals, but also actively campaigns for abortion rights, the protection of sexual health services, contraceptive and alcohol awareness, and those with learning disabilities. In this week’s Alert Me: BDSM with chicken (no, I’m not making that up), a new eBook subscription service, and a sudden surge in Canadian sex toy sales.

‘Pro-tip: Spatchcocked or trussed? Depends on how sarcastic your chicken has been.’

Thanks to author Andrew Shaffer (@andrewtshaffer), I am now following erotic poultry on Twitter (@50ShadesChicken) and considering buying a BDSM chicken cookbook. Clearly, I’m plucked. Continue reading

What we used: Liquid Silk lubricant
From: Bodywise
Price: From £9.99 for a 250ml bottle
Ingredients: Highly purified water, propylene glycol, isopropyl palmitate, dimethicone, cellulose polymer, polysorbate 60, sorbitan stearate, cetearyl alcohol, glyceryl stearate NSE, B.N.P.D, di sodium EDTA, phenoxyethanol, methyl paraben, butyl paraben, ethyl paraben, propyl paraben, BHT.

First thoughts

Lizzie
A quality lubricant in a decent-sized bottle – and at a reasonable price – is quite hard to find. On average, Thomas and I tend to replenish our supply of slippery stuff every two to three weeks. Granted, we’re pretty generous in terms of the quantity we apply to each other but it’s a pain to be constantly buying lube what feels like every five minutes. Enter the 250ml bottle of Liquid Silk.

How it looks

Lizzie
The Liquid Silk lubricant packaging is very simple. The bottle is a good size and resembles the sort you’d buy bathroom handwash in. I like that the pump dispenser isn’t the annoying fixed, squat design you find on the various Durex containers; it screws on, which means that you can unfasten it and get that last bit of lubricant out when you’re nearing the end of your supply. The lube itself is actually a milky white colour, which is quite different to many of the water-based lubricants I’ve used in the past. (The majority tend to be clear.) Continue reading

What we used: Goodhead Oral Sex Mints
Brand: Doc Johnson
From: Sex Toys U.K.
Price: £7.95 for approximately 20 mints
Ingredients: Benzocaine (10 mg)

We’ve all been there. That uncomfortable moment during a blow job when he goes that bit deeper and your gag reflex kicks in. It’s not a particularly pleasant feeling. Enter Goodhead Oral Sex Mints. The question is, do they work?

First thoughts

Lizzie
Fellatio is not my forte. I always have the best intentions – and genuinely enjoy doing something that Thomas finds so pleasing – but man alive, my gag reflex is terrible. My technique has improved somewhat over the years and I’ve learned a few tricks to compensate or curtail it slightly (lying on my back with my head hanging over the edge of the mattress to give a nice, straight line to the throat, placement of fingers, angling my head to better use my cheeks, etc.) but I’m no Linda Lovelace. Not even close.

Goodhead Oral Sex Mints claim to repress the gag reflex with a mild anaesthetic, which, in theory, equals a bit of deep throat action for the person you’re fellating. Per the packaging:

‘Numb your throat to take him deeper… with less effort!’

Needless to say, I was intrigued to see whether they really would give me a little more, er, capacity. Continue reading

What we used: Pony Play Butt Plug Whip (small)
Brand: Doc Johnson
From: UberKinky
Price: £19.99
Material(s): plug – PVC (latex-free, phthalate-free); tail whip – synthetic (unspecified)

If you like the idea of a butt plug with a little decoration, or have a penchant for pony play, the Doc Johnson Pony Play Butt Plug Whip may be all the excuse you need to mount up.

First thoughts …

Lizzie
The very first butt plug I ever tried – quite a few years back now – was a Doc Johnson offering and it looked very, very similar to this one – albeit slightly larger and without the glossy black tail sprouting from the base. I really liked that old plug, so was very much looking forward to trying this one out.

The first word that sprang to mind looking at this toy? Cute! It’s a very manageable size and the tail gives it lovely kinky little twist. Pony play isn’t one of my particular kinks but I do love the idea of decorative butt plugs, so the Pony Play Butt Plug Whip fits that bill perfectly. Continue reading

Yes, we’re back to our regular posting programme after a much-needed bout of housekeeping.

I’ve read some fabulous books over the past few days – including Cherri Lynn’s Leave me Breathless and Riley Murphy’s Reclaimed Surrender (reviews ahoy-hoy) – and also managed to pen another episode of The Garden of Earthly Delights [*no longer available on the blog], so expect to see a bit of a focus on books and writing in the next few Chintz posts.

More toy reviews in the pipeline, too – and perhaps some new reviewers …

We’re taking a bit of a break this week, so there won’t be any new posts until Monday 12 November. If you’re new to Behind the Chintz Curtain and want to know what we’re all about (or you haven’t stopped by in a while), here’s a selection of last month’s most popular posts:

What we used: Bondage Heat Play Wax Candle in black
From: Bondara
Price: £8.50
Material(s): Paraffin wax

A burning candle is a thing of beauty. But what about all that wonderful molten wax? Lizzie and Thomas experiment with a bondage candle and discover the joys of wax play.

* Please take the time to review the Behind the Chintz Curtain Disclaimer before reading this post. Wax play carries some degree of risk and shouldn’t be undertaken without the proper safety precautions.

First thoughts …

Lizzie
Wax play. Yet another thing that’s been languishing on my ‘really want to try it’ list for what seems like forever. However, the big sex toy retailers (in the U.K. at least) have rather limited selections when it comes to wax play candles. There are a load of massage candles from the luxury brands on offer – such as the Lelo Flickering Touch and the Jimmyjane Afterglow – but trying to find nice ones for dripping on your partner isn’t particularly easy. So I was really pleased when we found the Bondage Heat Play candle on Bondara’s website; a decent size and colour, at a reasonable price. Continue reading
