No discount and freebie thread last Friday (sorry, my review of Truth had to take precedence) but I think this week’s round-up more than makes up for it. The summer sale season is upon us and there are some serious, serious lingerie bargains to be had over at Coco de Mer, Agent Provocateur, and Figleaves.

TOYS AND LINGERIE

Agent Provocateur
AP is one of my favourite, favourite under-thing brands but at full-price their stuff, while beautiful, is death on the old wallet. This is definitely the time to buy. These corset-style Ilya Big Briefs? Reduced from £110 to £55.  This Mercy Waspie? £185 to £95. These Syble tie-side knickers (similar to the ones I wore in my Sinful Sunday pic a while back)? Reduced to £35 from £65.

Coco de Mer
Is offering up to 50% off selected items, including lingerie, bondage/fetish wear and sex toys. There are some beautiful, beautiful items in this sale, including FYI’s Binding Briefs (£64.00), the Coco de Mer Jade Petite Rosebud Small Butt Plug (£60.00), the DL & Co Lady Rhubarb Ombre Collection Scented Candle (£32.00) and this beautiful Crystal Flogger from Bo’s Tit Bits (£98.00). Girls Night InSex. Do you talk about it openly? And if you do, exactly how much do you confess or share in the company of others? How frank are your conversations?

Personal experience tells me that the act of sex and our perceptions of our sexuality often become more complex as we get older. Generally speaking, we’ve learned what we like, what we don’t, and often, with a little maturity and experience, find ourselves wanting to explore things that we may have been too timid to tackle or acknowledge in our youth. However, for many of us, finding the time and the space to talk about what interests us with other like-minded people can be difficult. And invariably the things we discuss and the conclusions we draw from our conversations are not widely shared.

The other week, I was contacted by a very lovely lady by the name of Angelina, part of the team from The Boudoir, who wanted to let me know about an initiative the latter have started in the U.K. called Girls Night In. The premise? Groups of ladies getting together to talk frankly about their sex lives behind their very own (chintzy) curtains and, in the process, helping to build an online information resource for others who may be less comfortable with being so open. Fifty Shades of PinkDisheartened. That’s the word that comes to mind after watching last night’s Sex Toy Stories on Channel Four. I didn’t plan on writing this post. But I went to bed feeling annoyed about it and when I woke up with my teeth still clenching, decided to let loose on the keyboard.

If you follow the Chintz Twitter account, you may have seen the tweets I posted following the show’s the conclusion late last night. They were, largely, to do with the colour pink and how annoyed I was that sex toy manufacturers-slash-sellers seem to think that every women wants something that looks like a piece of rock candy to stick between her legs. However, for me, this gripe was really the tip of a much bigger iceberg.

A quick recap for those who didn’t see get the chance to see this documentary … Eight everyday women – the ‘O Team’ – are recruited by adult toy/lingerie giant Ann Summers to produce a range of sex toys for ‘real women’. A camera crew follows them around for a year as they share their thoughts and ideas, and documents the Summers team taking them from concept to completion. The final (pink/purple) products are unveiled, everyone claps, and Ann Summers make a sh*t load of money. The volunteers? Oh, they get the kudos of having designed something for Ann Summers. And maybe a few free toys. Continue reading

Time for the Friday freebie and discount thread, Sexy on a Budget.

Just a quick note before we get into it … I’ve tried to pick eBooks, for the most part, that sound like they’ve actually been written by people with a basic grasp of spelling, syntax, and grammar but sincere apologies in advance if you end up with something that appears to have been written in crayon by a six-year-old. That said, these titles are all free (or were at the time of listing), so if they’re utter rubbish, you’ll have lost absolutely nothing by downloading them except space on your eReader. And maybe a few brain cells.

Out of the Shadows – Senta Holland

Out of the Shadows

According to the blurb, this is one for those who enjoyed The Secret Diary of a Submissive.

‘A deeply felt and superbly written BDSM love story, Senta Holland’s ‘Out of the Shadows’ explores the beautiful darkness in seven bedrooms.

Senta, a thirty something Londoner, travels around the planet looking for the man who can match her. The one she finds is her ‘Nai’, a high society American in Asia.

Senta’s story is both complicated and made more exciting by the fact that it unfolds in the dark world of BDSM, a world that can be hostile to single, independent females.

Highly erotic, deeply romantic and insightful this book shows the BDSM experience from the inside out, as reality, not just fantasy.’ Continue reading

The Swoon Shimmy. Nope, it’s not a new Strictly Come Dancing routine but a little bullet vibrator from the folks over at Lovehoney. The question is, did it make Lizzie want to tango? And was she Driven Balmy?

First thoughts
The Shimmy is the first new vibrator that I’ve tried out in what seems like ages (we’re talking calendar months!) and, I have to say, I was quite looking forward to putting it through its paces. That said, I haven’t come across a vibrator that’s really knocked my socks off for quite some time, big or small, so wasn’t getting my hopes up too high for the size and the price of this one. I do have a bit of a thing for lotions and potions that stimulate the clitoris, though, so was very interested to see how the Swoon formulation compared against my current favourite, Durex O. Reading is an expensive hobby. A romance here, an erotica there … If you have  bit of a book addiction, like me, the costs soon add up. And that evil thing, the eReader, doesn’t exactly help. I can’t tell you how many times something shiny has caught my eye in an online bookstore – something I had no intention of reading – and I’ve subsequently found myself stabbing merrily away at the ‘download now’ button.

Similarly, keeping the toy box interesting can leave a pretty serious ding in the old bank account. I don’t tend to buy vibrators and dildos at the same rate I buy books (I doubt I’d be able to stand upright if I did!) but, even so, the good stuff is never particularly cheap.

So in the spirit of preventing whacking great reading bills and giving you frugal orgasms, I thought I’d compile a list of current deals and freebies. I’m going to try and do this every Friday, if I can – so if you fancy a little something for the weekend you’ll (hopefully!) be able to find a book or toy that won’t break the budget.

In today’s Alert Me, themed BDSM implements, a totally groovy granny, and some very interesting cake decorations …

Star Wars BDSM toys from a kinky galaxy far, far away
Source: io9.com

Attention kinky sci-fi fans! Tying up getting a bit terrestrial? Need some fantasy to go with your fetish? Well, go and check out Geek Kink’s incredibly interesting little shop on Etsy. Sith-inspired paddles. Darth Vader lightsabre floggers … Everything you need, really, to go to the Dark Side. No Princess Leia in chains though; you may have to supply her yourself. And if Star Wars isn’t your bag, panic not. You can always go for a Super Mario cane or a My Little Pony paddle (!).

NB: ten points to Geek Kink for his shop tag line: ‘These are the toys you’re looking for’.

The oldest romance writer in the world
Source: The New Zealand Herald

I really enjoyed reading this article about 105-year-old Ida Pollock who is, apparently, the oldest living romance writer in the world. Go her. But the thing I liked even more? The accompanying YouTube clip. Cracked me up no end. There’s an incredibly entertaining discourse about the merits of French, Austrian and English heroes. And very emphatic use of the word ‘What?!’ by Ida every so often. Sweet and hilarious all at the same time.

James Franco Gets Sex-Toy Birthday Cake and an Award at Miami LGBT Film Festival
Source: E! Online U.K.

‘I’d like a piece with the ball gag on it, please.’

A strap-on. A ball gag. Anal beads. A flogger. Nope, I’m not talking about sex toys (well, not real ones) but the decorations on actor James Franco’s birthday cake. The sort that aren’t likely available in the baking aisle at Sainsbury’s. You can just imagine everyone eating a slice of this beauty after the candles have been blown out, can’t you? (‘Try the strap-on. It’s delicious!’) I’m not sure I’d be able to get my head around eating anal beads, though – even if they were made of sugar! :-/

Rocks-Off RO-100mm bullet vibrator

What we used: RO-100mm soft tip bullet vibrator
From: Rocks-Off
Price: from £12.90 (varies by retailer)
Material(s): chrome-plated ABS/silicone tip
Reviewer: D

This Rocks-Off RO-100mm bullet write-up is a special one, because it is has been undertaken by my newest reviewer, D, who is an amazing 74-years-of-age. All of you out there who think that sex toys aren’t for those of increased maturity? Think again!  Reading her comments on this little vibe was fascinating – and I’m thinking that maybe I should have given her something a bit bigger to kick off with!

All I can say is that I hope I’m as wonderful and sexy as D is when I hit my 70s … Continue reading

Quite a few friends and acquaintances know about my blog, although I tend to get a range of reactions when people hear about it for the first time. Amusement and shock are common, ‘you don’t look like the sort of person who would write about sex!’ (I had no idea a certain appearance was required) but more often than not they’re curious and will ask questions or actively send me things they think I might be interested in reading or writing about. It’s not unusual for me to turn up at someone’s house for a coffee and have news clippings about erotica or sex toys shoved into my hands the moment I sit down. Anyway, a couple of months ago a good friend of mine said to me: ‘A guy my husband knows is starting a sex shop for women. I showed him Chintz when we had supper the other night and he wants to talk to you’. Continue reading

Rattan

I’m not sure that this photograph is particularly good from a technical perspective – the focus is a little bit out – but I kind of like it. I think it’s because I’m able to see the inside of the cane: the rattan’s structure and the way the tubular fibres sit so snugly next to one another. Looking at them like this, in cross section, it’s hard to believe they could pack much of a punch – ye gads do they ever, though! Continue reading
