What we used: Tease Me Soft Satin Blackout Blindfold
From: Lovehoney
Price: £14.99
Material(s): Satin
Lizzie and Thomas have the opportunity to try out Lovehoney’s innovative satin Tease Me blindfold. Will they encounter the slippage issues they experienced during their last blindfold roadtest?
Lizzie
A few weeks ago, we reviewed Coco de Mer’s ‘Freedom is deciding whose slave you want to be’ blindfold as part of the Christian Grey’s Playthings toy series. If you read our post, you’ll know that we loved the look and feel of this pretty and luxurious bit of kit but had some issues with it slipping off at inopportune moments.
Enter the very lovely Alice from Lovehoney who, after reading our review, kindly sent us Lovehoney’s very own Tease Me blindfold to try out. This innovative product has an ingenious flexible wire embedded inside the satin, so the wearer gets a much better fit across their nose and cheeks and, consequently, there’s less chance of it parting company with the face during use.
First impressions …
Lizzie
The Tease Me blindfold arrives in a slim white cardboard package featuring the Lovehoney’s branding in purple white and black and encased in a clear plastic sleeve. Very simple and understated (I wouldn’t have been offended if Thomas had bought this for me as a gift).
The blindfold itself is pretty; the outward-facing side is rich purple and the inward-facing panel a lovely glossy black. The section that’s designed to sit over the nose and eyes is delineated by a half-moon of leather-like piping and inside the curved section of this is a thin, flexible wire (which you can easily feel and manipulate with your fingers).
Thomas
This is a very nice blindfold. It looks high quality, the stitching is good and it feels soft to the touch. The packaging is nicely discrete as well.
Putting it on …
Lizzie
This blindfold is different to others that we’ve tried in that it’s the first we’ve used with a malleable wire. As Thomas places the fold over my eyes, I bring my hands up to smooth the wire portion over the bridge of my nose. It’s very easy to mould it to the contours of my face and once it’s shaped, the blindfold really hugs the skin – especially when Thomas ties the trailing ends in a firm knot. (Generally, I prefer to be completely passive when using blindfolds, restraints and the like – my preference is for Thomas to be in total charge of proceedings – but first time out, getting the fit of the blindfold right is important. The good news is that once it’s adjusted to suit your face the wire holds its shape – so it can be refitted if it’s not flattened out – but it’s also really easy for your partner to smooth it over the bridge of your nose and beneath your eyes provided they are gentle.)
Thomas
I found this blindfold much easier to get in place than the one we reviewed previously; the embedded wire really helps hold it in position and it is much better to tie, too, as the material is slightly less slippery. Because the front of the blindfold can be shaped to the wearer’s profile it is also stops any peeking!
How it feels …
Lizzie
Lovely in the hands – soft and silky – and just as good on the face. (I really enjoyed the feel of the Coco de Mer blindfold and I’m pleased to report that the Tease Me equivalent is just as silky and sensual against the skin.)
The roadtest …
Lizzie
Unlike its Coco de Mer sister, the Tease Me blindfold leaves me completely in the dark once it’s fitted. With the former, I can make out rough shapes through the silk and, as such, have a vague idea of how close Thomas is to me and whether he has something in his hand. The Tease Me blindfold, by contrast, consigns me to total darkness and I can’t see a thing through the fabric. Brilliant – not least because it heightens the sense of being out-of-control, which I really enjoy.
I’m very interested to see how the blindfold holds up once we get horizontal as that’s where things went a bit pear-shaped last time but I’m pleasantly surprised. Not only does the contouring wire keep the satin close to my face and obscure my view of proceedings, it also helps keep it in position when I’m on my back with the knotted portion rubbing against the mattress. (Interestingly, the satin used in the blindfold seems to ‘stick’ to itself and Thomas’s knot stays firm despite friction with the sheets on our bed.)
Thomas
This blindfold certainly serves the purpose for which it was designed – robbing the wearer of their ability to see. Because of the wire insert, Lizzie can’t ‘cheat’ by trying to look out the bottom – and she can’t see anything through it, either. Best of all, the Tease Me blindfold doesn’t keep coming loose when we engage in more vigorous activity (which was the main problem we had with the Coco de Mer blindfold we used in the Christian Grey’s Playthings roadtest).
As with all blindfolds of this type, you need to tie the knot securely and high on the head to ensure a good fit – and to take care that you don’t get any hair caught in the latter.
Any downsides?
Lizzie
None. The only thing I would say is that when Thomas went to put the Tease Me blindfold on me for the first time, it took us a minute or two to work out whether the wire should be at the top edge of the blindfold or the bottom as there are no instructions for orientating the blindfold on or inside the packaging.
Thomas
Nothing other than the lack of instructions on which way up it goes, but it’s not too hard to figure out.
The verdict?
A really cleverly designed blindfold that’s extremely effective in blocking the sight of the wearer, is reasonably priced and actually stays in place! It looks lovely, too. Definitely a keeper.
In summary
Things we liked:
- The material. Nice, soft satin that feels good on the face.
- The construction. The wire insert really sets this apart from other tie-style blindfolds; not only does it block out the light effectively, it prevents slippage during use.
- The price. Great value – especially with Lovehoney’s free shipping.
Things we weren’t so keen on:
- The lack of instructions regarding orientation (although this isn’t a big deal as you can work out which way up the wire should go fairly easily).
